Physical Therapist (Wcmc)

Under general supervision and medical direction, an incumbent in this class performs physical and rehabilitation therapy on patients in accordance with the diagnosis and prescription of referring physicians. Treatment is provided in a hospital, health facility or patient's home; does related work as required. Supervision is not a function of this class. Does related work as required.

Either: (a) at time of temporary appointment* must possess a limited permit to practice physical therapy, issued by the NYS Education Department,**, or (b) at time of permanent appointment must possess a valid license and current registration, issued by the NYS Education Department, as a physical therapist.
*SPECIAL NOTE : NYS
State Education Law Sections 6735 and 6741-a provide for the issuance of a limited permit to practice as physical therapist for a period of 6 months while under the on-site supervision of a physical therapist licensed and currently registered in New York State. Practice beyond the initial 6 month period requires an extension of the limited permit to be approved by the NYS Education Department. **SPECIAL NOTE : A new graduate of an approved physical therapy program who has applied for a license or a limited permit to practice as a physical therapist in the State of New York may receive a temporary appointment to this title for a period of 90 days immediately following graduation. Such employment, authorized by Section 6736 of the NYS Education Law, shall be performed under the on-site supervision of a physical therapist licensed and currently registered in New York State.

There are no residence requirements to participate in the examination, but preference in appointment may be given to eligibles that have been residents in the appointing jurisdiction for 30 days prior to the examination and at the effective date of appointment.
