Physical Therapist (Training & Experience Examination)

This is a professional position involving responsibility for evaluating, planning and providing physical therapy treatment to patients in accordance with written prescription or referral from a physician who provides medical direction. The Physical Therapist is responsible to a Senior Physical Therapist or, if there is no senior position, to a designated administrator/director for the operation of the department. Supervision may be exercised over the work of Physical Therapy Assistants, Physical Therapy Aides and clerical employees assigned to the service. A Physical Therapist does related work as required. Typical Qualifications RESIDENCY: Candidates must have been legal residents of the following jurisdiction(s) for at least four months immediately preceding the date of the written test: Livingston County, or One of the following Counties: Allegany, Genesee, Monroe, Ontario, Steuben or Wyoming Applicants must meet all requirements for one of the following qualification options in order to be approved for examination and/or appointment: Qualification Option # 1 2 Training/Education Master’s degree or higher in physical therapy [1] . A New York State Education Department permit to practice as an Physical Therapist. General experience None required. None required. Supervisory experience None required. None required. License/ Certification Licensed and currently registered by the New York State Education Department as a Physical Therapist.
(1) If the appointing authority is a: (a) public, incorporated or licensed proprietary hospital, a licensed nursing home, a public health agency, a recognized public school setting, or in the civil service of the state; AND
(2) The appointing authority has a licensed physical therapist who is available and willing to provide on-site supervision as described in Education Law section 6735 Other requirements See Special Qualifications below. See Special Qualifications below.
SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Appropriate licensure must be maintained throughout employment. Limited Permitee’s appointed under Option 2 will be required to obtain their license in accordance with NYS Education Law Article 136 §6735. [1] A Bachelor’s degree is acceptable, if license was obtained prior to the current mandates.
