Public Health Nurse

The work involves responsibility for the performance of public health nursing activities with individuals, families, clinics and classes in accordance with the planned program of the agency. This is a specialized area of professional nursing practiced within the outlines of organized community health. The Public Health Nurse has the responsibility for assessing the health care needs of patients and families, providing professional nursing care where necessary and teaching families health principles for prevention of disease and maintenance of health. Work is performed under the supervision of a Supervising Public Health Nurse. Incumbents do related work as required.

Candidates must possess a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing as well as licensure and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State. In addition, candidates must also possess a valid driver’s license. College *transcripts, a copy of your Nursing License, Registered Professional Nurses Registration and your driver’s license must accompany your application. Transcripts downloaded from the internet, grade reports or copies that do not identify the educational institutions are unacceptable for purposes of qualification. Note: Your degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education. (If your degree was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. You must pay the required evaluation fee.”) Successful candidates will have their names inter-filed on a continuous recruitment eligible list in rank order regardless of the date on which the test was administered. A candidate’s eligibility will be for a period of one year beginning on the date their name was added to the list. Candidates are permitted to participate in this examination at one-year intervals. The Orange County Department of Human Resources reserves the right to terminate the continuous recruitment program at any time.

The only subject of examination will be an evaluation of your training and experience. You are asked to include in your application a summary of all pertinent training and experience in sufficient detail so that your background may be evaluated against the duties of the position. In your summary of training, include all college course work which was not a part of the Nursing degree program or which has not yet resulted in a degree, formal in-service training, and seminars you have attended. You must specify either the number of credits received or the number of contact hours and dates of attendance.
