Librarian II (Spanish Speaking)

Under general direction of a higher level librarian or administrative director, the incumbent performs professional librarian duties in an assigned unit and generally has responsibility for planning, directing and supervising a specialized unit such as circulation, technical or audio visual services. Supervision is exercised over the work of professional, para-professional, clerical, and volunteer staff. Duties require proficiency in both Spanish and English languages. Does related work as required.

Possession of a Master’s Degree* in Library Science from a library school that is accredited by the American Library Association or recognized by the New York State Education Department as following acceptable educational practices and two (2) years of professional library experience.

There will be no written or oral test for this examination. Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will receive a rating based upon an evaluation of their training and experience against the duties of the position being tested. Candidates must first apply on our website at https://humanresources.westchestercountyny.gov/ and complete an examination application . Approved candidates will be sent a notice containing directions to a secure website address at the New York State Department of Civil Service to complete a Training and Experience Questionnaire. The Training and Experience Questionnaire will be available for a minimum of ten days and approved candidates will be required to complete and submit the questionnaire within the submission period stated on the notice.

There are no residence requirements to participate in the examination, but preference in appointment may be given to eligibles who have been residents of the appointing jurisdiction at least 30 days prior to the effective date of appointment.
