What the job involves
The work involves responsibility for administering primary emergency medical care to persons who have suffered physical trauma such as heart attack, automotive or other accidents, poisoning, etc. at the scene and during transport in an ambulance to a hospital for more comprehensive and intensive treatment. The work is performed under the general supervision with leeway allowed for exercise of independent judgment. Incumbents do related work as required.
Minimum qualifications
Your application must clearly indicate possession of a high school or equivalency diploma and possession of a current Emergency Medical Technician Certification or higher issued through the New York State Department of Health. Please submit a copy of your Emergency Medical Technician Certificate, reflecting date of licensure with your application. In addition, candidates must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license in a class appropriate to the requirements of the Appointing Authority. Please submit a copy of your valid driver’s license with your application. Successful candidates will have their names inter-filed on a continuous recruitment eligible list in rank order regardless of the date on which the test was administered. A candidate’s eligibility will be for a period of one year beginning on the date their name was added to the list. Candidates are permitted to participate in this examination at one-year intervals. The Orange County Department of Human Resources reserves the right to terminate the continuous recruitment program at any time.

Subject of examination
The only subject of examination will be an evaluation of your training and experience. You are asked to include in your application a summary of all pertinent training and experience in sufficient detail so that your background may be evaluated against the duties of the position. In your summary of training, include all college course work, formal in-service training and seminars you have attended. You must specify either the number of credits received or the number of contact hours and dates of attendance. College *transcripts and/or training certificates must be submitted with your application if you wish to claim credit for college coursework, training, seminars or continuing education. Transcripts downloaded from the internet, grade reports or copies that do not identify the educational institutions are unacceptable for purposes of qualification. Note: Your degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education. (If your degree was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. A list of acceptable companies who provide this service can be found on the Internet at http://www.cs.ny.gov/jobseeker/degrees.cfm. You must pay the required evaluation fee.”) In your summary of experience, you must specify the dates of your employment, the number of hours worked per week, your title, and the main duties for each position held in both ambulance and non-ambulance emergency services. Be specific; vagueness and ambiguity will not be resolved in your favor. Candidates who submit incomplete applications or documentation may be disqualified.
