What the job involves
This is a professional position involving responsibility for evaluation, planning and providing occupational therapy treatment to patients in accordance with written prescription or referral from a physician who provides medical direction. The Occupational Therapist is responsible to a Senior Occupational Therapist or, if there is no senior position, to a designated administrator/director responsible for the operation of the department. Supervision may be exercised over the work of Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants, Occupational Therapy Aides and clerical employees assigned to the service. An Occupational Therapist does related work as required. Typical Qualifications RESIDENCY: Candidates must have been legal residents of the following jurisdiction(s) for at least four months immediately preceding the date of the written test: Livingston County, or One of the following Counties: Allegany, Genesee, Monroe, Ontario, Steuben or Wyoming Applicants must meet all requirements for one of the following qualification options in order to be approved for examination and/or appointment: Qualification Option # 1 2 Training/Education A Bachelor's or Master's degree in occupational therapy or completion of a program acceptable to the New York State Education Department (NYSED). A New York State Education Department permit to practice as an Occupational Therapist. General experience None required. None required. Supervisory experience None required. None required. License/ Certification Licensed and currently registered by the New York State Education Department as an Occupational Therapist.
(1) If the appointing authority is a: (a) public, voluntary, or proprietary hospital, health care agency OR (b) a preschool, elementary, or secondary school providing services for a handicapped child AND (2) The appointing authority has a licensed occupational therapist or a licensed physician who is available and willing to provide direct supervision as described in Education Law section 7905, a New York State Education Department permit to practice as an Occupational Therapist shall be acceptable in lieu of a license. SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Appropriate licensure must be maintained throughout employment. Limited Permitee’s appointed under Option 2 will be required to obtain their license in accordance with NYS Education Law Article 156 §7905.
