What the job involves

The work involves responsibility for responding to calls and providing emergency medical services to individuals in distress. The position requires the ability to diagnose moderately complex to complex medical conditions and administer appropriate emergency medical treatment. An incumbent in this position is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of an emergency vehicle and a variety of related emergency services equipment. An employee in this class will be required to safely transport emergency personnel to the scene and victims to the hospital. The supervision of Emergency Medical Technicians is a normal function of this position. Does related work as required.

Minimum qualifications

Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and possession of a valid New York State Department of Health Certification as Paramedic (AEMTP). Special Requirement: Possession of an appropriate valid New York State Driver’s License at time of appointment and for the duration of employment. Note: Pursuant to the New York State Health Code all Certified Ambulance Services shall have in attendance on each call at least one licensed driver who is at least 18 years of age and one attendant who is a Certified Emergency Medical Technician in attendance with the patient at all times.
The following must be submitted with your application:
A copy of original certification and current possession of a valid New York State Department of Health Certification as Paramedic (AEMTP) issued by the New York State Department of Health.

Subject of examination

The only subject of examination will be an evaluation of your training and experience. You are, therefore, asked to include in your application a summary of all pertinent training and experience in sufficient detail so that your background may be evaluated against the duties of the position. In your summary of training, include all college course work, formal in-service training, and seminars you have attended. You must specify either the number of credits received or the number of contact hours and dates of attendance. Include a copy of your professional license or documentation indicating eligibility for licensure. Specify the date that your license was first issued. Also, include a copy of your college transcripts, if applicable or required. In your summary of experience, you must specify the dates of your employment, the number of hours worked per week, your title, and the main duties for each. Be specific; vagueness and ambiguity will not be resolved in your favor. Candidates who submit incomplete applications or documentation may be disqualified. CANDIDATES WHO RECEIVE A GRADE OF 70 OR HIGHER WILL APPEAR ON THE APPROPRIATE ELIGIBLE LIST. THEIR NAME WILL BE INTERFILED ACCORDING TO GRADE AND WILL REMAIN ON THE ELIGIBLE
LIST FOR ONE (1) YEAR.
