Supervising Public Health Nurse

This is professional and supervisory work with responsibility for instructing, guiding and supervising nursing and auxiliary personnel in the provision of nursing services to assure safe, effective and efficient comprehensive care in homes, clinics and other community facilities. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Director of Patient Services through evaluation of activity reports and conferences. General supervision is exercised over a number of Public Health Nurses and auxiliary personnel. Incumbents do related work as required. Incumbents in this position must complete 15 hours of continuing education in public health and management related topics approved by the New York State Department of Health within the first year of employment. Incumbents must also maintain registration to practice as a registered professional nurse in New York State and a valid driver’s license throughout employment.

Candidates must possess licensure and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State and either:
(A) A Master's Degree in Nursing and one (1) year of experience in public health nursing; OR
(B) A Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and two (2) years of experience in public health nursing. In addition, candidates must also possess and maintain a valid driver’s license. College *transcripts, a copy of your New York State Nursing License, Registered Professional Nurses Registration and your driver’s license must accompany your application. Transcripts downloaded from the internet, grade reports or copies that do not identify the educational institutions are unacceptable for purposes of qualification. Note: Your degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education. You must pay the required evaluation fee.”) Successful candidates will have their names inter-filed on a continuous recruitment eligible list in rank order regardless of the date on which the test was administered. A candidate’s eligibility will be for a period of one year beginning on the date their name was added to the list. Candidates are permitted to participate in this examination at one-year intervals. A promotional continuous recruitment eligible list will also be maintained for this position. The promotional list containing names of permanent employees will be certified first when vacancies occur. The Orange County Department of Human Resources reserves the right to terminate the continuous recruitment program at any time.

The only subject of examination will be an evaluation of your training and experience.
