Senior Medical Technologist (Stat - General)

Under general supervision, an incumbent of this class is responsible for performing specialized technical analyses of all types of specimens leading to the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Responsibility also involves ensuring the receipt, recording, grouping and labeling of specimens and the communication of test results to the attending physician. Work involves shift assignment and weekend rotation. May function as a lead technologist in providing technical expertise and guidance in the area of specialization over lower level technicians. Does related work as required.

Either: (a) at time of permanent appointment, possession of a license and current registration as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist issued by the New York State Education Department; or (b) at time of temporary appointment, possession of a limited permit as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist or restricted license to practice clinical laboratory technology at the Westchester Medical Center issued by the New York State Education Department. There are no residence requirements to participate in the examination, but preference in appointment may be given to eligibles that have been residents in the appointing jurisdiction for 30 days prior to the examination and at the effective date of appointment.
