Nurse Practitioner

The work involves responsibility for the diagnosis of illness and physical conditions, provided such services are performed in accordance with school practice and school protocol. The incumbent of this position will assess the physical and psychosocial status of students by means of interview, health history, physical examination and diagnostic tests. The work is performed under the administration of a higher level administrator. Incumbents do related work as required.

Candidates must possess a current valid license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse issued by New York State, possession of current certification issued by the New York State Education Department in a specialty area(s)* to practice as a Nurse Practitioner and three (3) years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner. *SPECIAL NOTE: Part 64 of the NYS Commissioner of Education’s Regulations lists the following as specialty areas: Acute Care, Adult Health, College Health, Community Health, Family Health, Gerontology, Holistic Care, Neonatology, Obstetrics/Gynecology, Oncology, Pediatrics, Palliative Care, Perinatology, Psychiatry, School Health and Women’s Health. A copy of your New York State Registered Professional Nurses License and certification in a specialty area above must accompany your application. Successful candidates will have their names inter-filed on a continuous recruitment eligible list in rank order regardless of the date on which the test was administered. A candidate’s eligibility will be for a period of one year beginning on the date their name was added to the list. Candidates are permitted to participate in this examination at one-year intervals. The Orange County Department of Human Resources reserves the right to terminate the continuous recruitment program at any time.

The only subject of examination will be an evaluation of your training and experience. You are asked to include in your application a summary of all pertinent training and experience in sufficient detail so that your background may be evaluated against the duties of the position.
