What the job involves
This is a paraprofessional position involving responsibility for assisting an Occupational Therapist in the application of treatment procedures. The work is performed under the direct supervision of a Registered Occupational Therapist who evaluates the student or resident, develops the treatment plan, and designates treatment procedures to be followed. Student or resident progress and observations are reported to the Occupational Therapist who modifies the treatment to promote maximum rehabilitative and restorative measures. Supervision may be exercised over the work of assigned Occupational Therapy Aides. In the Valley View Center for Nursing Care & Rehabilitation work is performed in accordance with established policies and procedures and requires strict confidentiality in the maintenance of resident, facility and physician related information. Incumbents do related work as required.
Minimum qualifications
Candidates must possess a current New York State Registration Certificate to practice as an Occupational Therapist Assistant. A copy of your Occupational Therapist Assistant Registration Certificate must accompany your application. For positions in the Kiryas Joel Union Free School District, proficiency in the Yiddish language is required and will be evaluated during the probationary period. Successful candidates will have their names inter-filed on a continuous recruitment eligible list in rank order regardless of the date on which the test was administered. A candidate’s eligibility will be for a period of one year beginning on the date their name was added to the list. Candidates are permitted to participate in this examination at one-year intervals. The Orange County Department of Human Resources reserves the right to terminate the continuous recruitment program at any time.

Subject of examination
The only subject of examination will be an evaluation of your training and experience. You are asked to include in your application a summary of all pertinent training and experience in sufficient detail so that your background may be evaluated against the duties of the position. In your summary of training, include all college course work which was not a part of the Occupational Therapist Assistant degree program or which has not yet resulted in a degree, formal in-service training and seminars you have attended. You must specify either the number of credits received or the number of contact hours and dates of attendance. College *transcripts and/or training certificates must be submitted with your application if you wish to claim credit for college coursework, training, seminars or continuing education. Transcripts downloaded from the internet, grade reports or copies that do not identify the educational institutions are unacceptable for purposes of qualification. Note: Your degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education. (If your degree was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. A list of acceptable companies who provide this service can be found on the Internet at http://www.cs.ny.gov/jobseeker/degrees.cfm. You must pay the required evaluation fee.”) In your summary of experience, you must specify the dates of your employment, the number of hours worked per week, your title, and the main duties for each position held. Be specific; vagueness and ambiguity will not be resolved in your favor. Candidates who submit incomplete applications or documentation may be disqualified.
