Physical Therapy Assistant

This is a skilled paraprofessional position involving responsibility for assisting a Physical Therapist with the treatment and prevention of neuromuscular or musculoskeletal disabilities by the application of direct physical therapy procedures. The work is performed under the direct supervision of a qualified Physical Therapist who evaluates the resident or student, develops the treatment plan and designates specific responsibility to the Assistant. In schools and special districts, the Assistant applies physical therapy treatments or assists in the application of treatments to handicapped students in a special program of physical activities. At the Valley View Center for Nursing Care & Rehabilitation work is performed in accordance with established policies and procedures and requires strict confidentiality in the maintenance of resident, facility and physician related information. Supervision is exercised over Senior Physical Therapy Aides and Physical Therapy Aides. Incumbents do related work as required.

Candidates must possess a current New York State Registration Certificate to practice as a Physical Therapist Assistant. A copy of your Physical Therapist Assistant Registration Certificate must accompany your application. For positions in the Kiryas Joel Union Free School District, proficiency in the Yiddish language is required and will be evaluated during the probationary period. Successful candidates will have their names inter-filed on a continuous recruitment eligible list in rank order regardless of the date on which the test was administered. A candidate’s eligibility will be for a period of one year beginning on the date their name was added to the list. Candidates are permitted to participate in this examination at one-year intervals. The Orange County Department of Human Resources reserves the right to terminate the continuous recruitment program at any time.

The only subject of examination will be an evaluation of your training and experience. You are asked to include in your application a summary of all pertinent training and experience in sufficient detail so that your background may be evaluated against the duties of the position. Note: Your degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education.
