Legislative Analyst

An employee in this class performs thorough fiscal and programmatic analyses for the Suffolk County Legislature. Responsibility is included for the comparison of departmental requests with amounts recommended by the Suffolk County Executive, and the subsequent study of the impact upon departmental operations. This class differs from Assistant Legislative Analyst in that more thorough analyses are required, and from Senior Legislative Analyst in that no supervision is exercised. Work is performed under the supervision of a higher level Legislative Analyst or the Director of Budget Review. Does related work as required.

To be eligible, a candidate must now be serving and have served on a continuous basis with permanent or contingent permanent competitive status as an Assistant Legislative Analyst for at least two (2) years in the jurisdiction in which the candidate seeks promotion immediately preceding the written examination date. Provisional time immediately preceding a permanent appointment to the same title(s) will be credited.

The written test will cover
knowledge, skills, and/or abilities in such areas as:
1. Preparing written material; 2. Budgeting; 3. Understanding and interpreting tabular material; 4. Evaluating conclusions in light of known facts.
