What the job involves
An employee in this class performs thorough fiscal and programmatic analyses for the Suffolk County Legislature. Responsibility is included for the comparison of departmental requests with amounts recommended by the Suffolk County Executive, and the subsequent study of the impact upon departmental operations. This class differs from Assistant Legislative Analyst in that more thorough analyses are required, and from Senior Legislative Analyst in that no supervision is exercised. Work is performed under the supervision of a higher level Legislative Analyst or the Director of Budget Review. Does related work as required.
Minimum qualifications
(a) Graduation from a college with federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY State with a Master's Degree * and three (3) years of experience in the analysis of programs, research, management, finance, personnel, policy, and/or budgeting, two (2) years of which must have been in the public sector or government; or, (b) Graduation from a college with federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY State with a Bachelor's Degree * and five (5) years of experience in the analysis of programs, management, finance, personnel, policy, and/or budgeting, three (3) years of which must have been in the public sector or government; or, (c) An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of
(a) and (b). *Please attach to the application a copy of your college transcript(s) which must have your name, college name, and date of graduation printed on it by the institution. Grade reports, incomplete transcripts and other similar documents are unacceptable.
Subject of examination
The written test will cover knowledge, skills, and/or abilities in such
areas as:
1. Preparing written material; 2. Budgeting; 3. Understanding and interpreting tabular material; 4. Evaluating conclusions in light of known facts.
Residency
is not required for taking any examinations. However, some jurisdictions, such as schools, libraries, etc., give hiring preference to residents. Some towns also require employees to establish residency within the township. For employment in a Suffolk County Department, with only limited exceptions set forth in Suffolk County Law, residency within Suffolk County or Nassau County is required within five years of employment with the county. In any case in which residency preference is given, the appointee(s) must meet a specific residency standard as defined in the Civil Service Rules. 16. Saturday
