Assistant Legislative Analyst

An employee in this class assists in performing fiscal and programmatic analyses for the Suffolk County Legislature. The incumbent is assigned to work with a senior staff member, in a team approach to analysis, until enough knowledge and experience is gained for independent work performance. Work is assigned and reviewed by a higher level Legislative Analyst or an administrative supervisor. Does related work as required.

To be eligible, a candidate must now be serving and have served on a continuous basis with permanent or contingent permanent competitive status as a Legislative Technician for at least two (2) years in the jurisdiction in which the candidate seeks promotion immediately preceding the written examination date. Provisional time immediately preceding a permanent appointment to the same title(s) will be credited.

The written test will cover
knowledge, skills, and/or abilities in such areas as:
1. Preparing written material; 2. Budgeting; 3. Understanding and interpreting tabular material; 4. Evaluating conclusions in light of known facts.
