What the job involves

An employee in this class assists in performing fiscal and programmatic analyses for the Suffolk County Legislature. The incumbent is assigned to work with a senior staff member, in a team approach to analysis, until enough knowledge and experience is gained for independent work performance. Work is assigned and reviewed by a higher level Legislative Analyst or an administrative supervisor. Does related work as required.

Minimum qualifications

a) Graduation from a college with federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY State with a Master's Degree *; or,
b) Graduation from a college with federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY State with a Bachelor's Degree * and two (2) years of experience in the analysis of programs, research, management, finance, personnel, policy and/or budgeting, one (1) year of which must have been in the public sector or government; or,
c) An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of a) and b). *Please attach to the application a copy of your college transcript(s) which must have your name, college name, and date of graduation printed on it by the institution. Grade reports, incomplete transcripts and other similar documents are unacceptable .

Subject of examination

The written test will cover
knowledge, skills, and/or abilities in such areas as:
1. Preparing written material; 2. Budgeting; 3. Understanding and interpreting tabular material; 4. Evaluating conclusions in light of known facts.

Residency

is not required for taking any examinations. However, some jurisdictions, such as schools, libraries, etc., give hiring preference to residents. Some towns also require employees to establish residency within the township. For employment in a Suffolk County Department, with only limited exceptions set forth in Suffolk County Law, residency within Suffolk County or Nassau County is required within five years of employment with the county. In any case in which residency preference is given, the appointee(s) must meet a specific residency standard as defined in the Civil Service Rules. 16. Saturday
