What the job involves

An employee in this class locates sources of federal, state or private assistance and coordinates the preparation of aid programs. The incumbent may assist County departments, municipalities, private non-profit agencies and elected officials in grant-in-aid research. Supervision is exercised over technical and clerical personnel. General direction is received from administrative supervisors. Does related work as required.

Minimum qualifications

Either:
(a) Graduation from a college with federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY State with a Bachelor's Degree *, and four (4) years of experience in preparing, researching and/or monitoring grants from state or federal sources; or,
(b) Graduation from a standard senior high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma, and eight (8) years of experience in preparing, researching and/or monitoring grants from state or federal sources; or,
(c) An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of (a) and (b). *Please attach to the application a copy of your college transcript(s) which must have your name, college name, and date of graduation printed on it by the institution. Grade reports, incomplete transcripts and other similar documents are unacceptable .

Subject of examination

The written test will cover
knowledge, skills and/or abilities in such areas as:
1. Preparing written material; 2. Understanding and interpreting written material; 3. Understanding and interpreting tabular material; 4. Evaluating conclusions in light of known facts; 5. Supervision.

Residency

is not required for taking any examinations. However, some jurisdictions, such as schools, libraries, etc., give hiring preference to residents. Some towns also require employees to establish residency within the township. For employment in a Suffolk County Department, with only limited exceptions set forth in Suffolk County Law, residency within Suffolk County or Nassau County is required within five years of employment with the county. In any case in which residency preference is given, the appointee(s) must meet a specific residency standard as defined in the Civil Service Rules. 16. Saturday
