Contracts Examiner

An employee in this class is responsible for the timely drafting and implementation of contracts in accordance with local, state and federal rules and regulations. The work differs from that of Budget Examiner in that the incumbent is primarily concerned with the short-term administration of government contracts and utilizes the information provided from the Budget and Comptroller's Division to safeguard the day-to-day interests of the County. The incumbent revises contracts in accordance with specific recommendations from the Budget Office, Audit and Control, the County Attorney or other administrative units. Supervision is exercised over a small support staff and is received from an administrative supervisor through written reports and conferences. Does related work as required.

To be eligible, a candidate must now be serving and have served on a continuous basis with permanent or contingent permanent competitive status as a Contracts Technician for at least two (2) years in the jurisdiction in which the candidate seeks promotion immediately preceding the written examination date. Provisional time immediately preceding a permanent appointment to the same title(s) will be credited.

The written test will cover
knowledge, skills and/or abilities in such areas as:
1. Preparing written material; 2. Understanding and interpreting written material; 3. Understanding and interpreting tabular material; 4. Evaluating conclusions in light of known facts; 5. Supervision.
