What the job involves

An employee in this class is responsible for the timely drafting and implementation of contracts in accordance with local, state and federal rules and regulations. The work differs from that of Budget Examiner in that the incumbent is primarily concerned with the short-term administration of government contracts and utilizes the information provided from the Budget and Comptroller's Division to safeguard the day-to-day interests of the County. The incumbent revises contracts in accordance with specific recommendations from the Budget Office, Audit and Control, the County Attorney or other administrative units. Supervision is exercised over a small support staff and is received from an administrative supervisor through written reports and conferences. Does related work as required.

Minimum qualifications

Graduation from a standard senior high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma, and six (6) years of budgeting, accounting, contract administration or claims processing experience, two (2) years of which must have been in contracts administration and interpretation.

Subject of examination

The written test will cover
knowledge, skills and/or abilities in such areas as:
1. Preparing written material; 2. Understanding and interpreting written material; 3. Understanding and interpreting tabular material; 4. Evaluating conclusions in light of known facts; 5. Supervision.

Residency

is not required for taking any examinations. However, some jurisdictions, such as schools, libraries, etc., give hiring preference to residents. Some towns also require employees to establish residency within the township. For employment in a Suffolk County Department, with only limited exceptions set forth in Suffolk County Law, residency within Suffolk County or Nassau County is required within five years of employment with the county. In any case in which residency preference is given, the appointee(s) must meet a specific residency standard as defined in the Civil Service Rules. 16. Saturday
