What the job involves

An employee in this class is responsible for coordinating County, Federal and State Aid claims. The employee develops sources of Federal and State Aid available through various agencies to maximize reimbursement of departmental costs through Suffolk County. Work is performed under general supervision and is reviewed through conferences and reports. Supervision is exercised over a staff of technical and clerical employees. Does related work as required.

Minimum qualifications

Graduation from a college with federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY State with a Bachelor's Degree *, and seven (7) years of experience in the analysis of financial documents, which must have included the analysis and development of plans for improved operations and productivity, four (4) years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.

The written test will cover
knowledge, skills, and/or abilities in such areas as:
1. Preparing written material; 2. Understanding and interpreting written material; 3. Understanding and interpreting tabular material; 4. Evaluating conclusions in light of known facts; 5. Supervision.

Residency

is not required for taking any examinations. However, some jurisdictions, such as schools, libraries, etc., give hiring preference to residents. Some towns also require employees to establish residency within the township. For employment in a Suffolk County Department, with only limited exceptions set forth in Suffolk County Law, residency within Suffolk County or Nassau County is required within five years of employment with the county. In any case in which residency preference is given, the appointee(s) must meet a specific residency standard as defined in the Civil Service Rules. 16. Saturday
