Principal Account Clerk

The work involves responsibility for planning, assigning, and supervising major account keeping activities and independently performing difficult and responsible account keeping functions. Work is performed under general supervision in accordance with outlined policies and procedures allowing for the exercise of independent judgment in planning and carrying out the details of work and/or by the supervisory responsibilities of subordinate staff. The incumbent does related work as required. NOTE: Calculators are RECOMMENDED .

Candidates must be permanently employed in the competitive class, non-competitive HELP Program or under Section 55A, and must have served on a continuous basis for twenty-four (24) months in the title of Senior Account Clerk or forty-eight (48) months in the title of Account Clerk or Account Clerk - Typist in an agency under the jurisdiction of the St. Lawrence County Human Resources Department. Preference in appointment may be given within the Agency/Department in which the vacancy exists. According to Civil Service Law, section 52.10(a) which became effective September 4, 2024, time served provisionally immediately preceding permanent appointment shall count towards meeting the time in title and the employee shall be eligible to take the promotion examination. Time served in an equivalent NY HELPS title immediately preceding permanent competitive appointment shall count towards meeting the time in title and the employee shall be eligible to take the promotion examination. NY HELPS service should count as “time in title” for promotion eligibility once the employee has gained competitive status. NY HELPS appointees will remain restricted on the promotion list until they obtain competitive class status.
