What the job involves

(ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY)
- Operates a computer terminal or data entry machine to enter and retrieve data;
- Compares transcribed data with source documents and corrects any errors;
- Locates proper source data files and makes changes, additions or deletions;
- Answers telephone and gives out routine information;
- Performs routine clerical tasks such as sorting, indexing and filing of office records, and copying;
- Maintains routine agency records and reports;
- Inputs data into web software.

Minimum qualifications

Graduation from High School or possession of a High School Equivalency diploma and either: six months of full-time paid data entry or typing experience or it’s part-time equivalent; or satisfactory completion of a course in data entry machine operation or computer software use; or an equivalent combination of training and experience as defined above.

Subject of examination

The test will be a performance test which will require you to use a conventional personal computer (PC) with a standard keyboard to perform various clerical tasks using a pre-established database. This test will consist of three parts. In part one, you will be required to add, delete and update various records in the database. In part two, you will be required to retrieve records from a database and write down selected information from the records onto printed forms. In part three, you will be asked questions on the computer screen about the information you wrote down in part two. You will enter your answers directly into the PC. Residency

Candidates must have been legal residents of Seneca County or one of the six contiguous counties fo r one month preceding the date of application. Preference in appointment may be given to successful candidates who have been legal residents of the municipality in which appointment is to be made for at least one month prior to the date of certification and are residents of such municipality at the time of appointment.

Location

Applications will be accepted continuously with tests being scheduled by the Seneca County Personnel Office. Names of eligibles will be inserted, according to their final rating, on such list from time to time as applicants are tested and found qualified on the examinations held at such intervals.
