What the job involves
This is paraprofessional work that involves responsibility for performing specialized library work in areas such as library programming, reference and cataloging. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Library Director or a professional Librarian and may involve supervision of clerical staff. Incumbent does related work as required.
Minimum qualifications
A Bachelor's degree, or higher. You must submit a complete application. Be sure to answer all questions. A resume may NOT be submitted in lieu of completing the application. Applications that do not clearly indicate the required qualifications will be disapproved. You must submit college transcripts* before being approved and taking this examination. If required transcripts are not received within sixty (60) days of filing the application, candidates will be disqualified with no further notice. NOTE: Your degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education. If your degree was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. A list of acceptable companies who provide this service can be found on the Internet at http://www.cs.ny.gov/jobseeker/degrees.cfm. You must pay the required evaluation fee. *Transcripts downloaded from the Internet, grade reports or copies that do not identify the educational institution are unacceptable for purposes of qualification. Successful candidates will have their names inter-filed on a continuous recruitment eligible list in rank order regardless of the date on which the test was administered. A candidate’s eligibility will be for a period of one year beginning on the date their name was added to the list. Candidates are permitted to participate in this examination at one-year intervals. The Orange County Department of Human Resources reserves the right to terminate the continuous recruitment program at any time.

Subject of examination
There will be no written or oral test for this examination. Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will receive a rating based upon an evaluation of their training and experience. Candidates must first complete an examination application and return it to the Orange County Department of Human Resources. This examination consists of a rating of Training and Experience and is being administered by the New York State Department of Civil Service using the World Wide Web. Approved candidates will be sent a notice containing directions to a website address needed to complete a Training and Experience Questionnaire. The Training and Experience Questionnaire will be available only to approved candidates, who will be required to complete and submit this questionnaire. Candidates will have a minimum of two (2) weeks to complete and submit the questionnaire. NOTE: Candidates will not be able to claim any credit for training or experience to be gained after the date of submission of the training and experience questionnaire. Langdon C.
