Minimum qualifications
Your application must clearly indicate possession of the following requirements as of the last filing date noted above: Licensed and entitled to practice law in the state of New York for ten (10) years and ten (10) years of experience in the practice law. Please submit a copy of your license to practice law in New York State with your application. You must submit a complete application. Be sure to answer all questions including dates of employment (month/year), number of hours worked per week and a detailed description of your experience in the practice of law as required by the qualifications noted above. A resume may NOT be submitted in lieu of completing the application. Applications that do not clearly indicate the required qualifications will be disapproved. What the Job is Like- The position involves responsibility for specialized professional legal work for the County Article 18B Assigned Counsel program within the newly created Office of Assigned Counsel. The work is performed in accordance with established policies and procedures and involves assisting the Assigned Counsel Plan Administrator with the administration of the County Article 18B Assigned Counsel and Indigent Legal Services program. This is a one-position class allocated to the competitive jurisdictional classification of the classified service. Under general supervision of the Assigned Counsel Plan Administrator, this position is responsible for specialized professional work in various legal matters with respect to County Law 18-b. Although the Assigned Counsel Plan Administrator is available for supervision, consultation and advice, considerable latitude is given for the exercise of independent judgment in assigned problems, matters and cases. Subject of examination
The only subject of examination will be an evaluation of your training and experience. There will be no written or oral test for this examination. Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will receive an evaluation of their training and experience against the background of the duties to the position. You are asked to include in your application a summary your training and experience in sufficient detail so that your background may be evaluated against the duties of the position. Be as concrete and specific as possible; vagueness and ambiguity will not be resolved in your favor. In your summary of training, indicate all training including any formal coursework which was not a part of a degree program, or which has not yet resulted in a degree. Indicate your participation in any continuing education programs including any convocations, seminars, workshops etc., in which you have participated over the past five years. Show the approximate dates and length of such programs and the nature of your participation. In your summary of experience include a comprehensive description of each relevant position you have held and the duties of the position. Also, where applicable, indicate the percentage of time spent in performing specific duties. It is the responsibility of the candidate to provide all necessary documentation and to complete all relevant parts of the application. To receive credit for experience- either qualifying or against a rating scale, they must show basic information such as employer name and address, name and title of supervisor, hours worked per week, dates of employment to include month and year started and ended, etc. A copy of a verifiable transcript for required education and a copy of the required license or professional certificate must be submitted with your application. All information must be submitted by close of file on the last filing date of September 9, 2026. College *transcripts and additional training certificates must be submitted with your application if you wish to claim credit for college coursework, training, seminars or continuing education pursuant to the above. *Transcripts downloaded from the Internet, grade reports or copies that do not identify the educational institution are unacceptable. Note: Your degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education.
