What the job involves
This is professional work involving the provision of psychiatric nursing care as part of an interdisciplinary mental health treatment team. The duties are performed under the general supervision of a Unit Leader in collaboration with a staff psychiatrist. Considerable leeway is allowed for the use of professional judgment in carrying out the details of the work. The work is performed in the client’s home as well as at the central mental health facility. Supervision is exercised over the work of paraprofessionals and student nurses. Does related work as required.

Minimum qualifications
Either:
A. Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse by the New York State Department of Education and graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a master’s degree including one year of clinical practicum or one year of post-degree professional nursing experience in mental health or psychiatric nursing in a position involving direct service to clients; OR
B. Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse by the New York State Department of Education and graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and three (3) years of post-degree professional nursing experience in mental health or psychiatric nursing in a position involving direct service to clients. Special Requirement: Possession of a New York State Motor Vehicle Operator's License at time of appointment.
The following must be submitted with your application:
College transcripts indicating possession of required degree (student copy is acceptable); and a copy of original license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse issued by the New York State Department of Education.
Subject of examination
The only subject of examination will be an evaluation of your training and experience. You are, therefore, asked to include in your application a summary of all pertinent training and experience in sufficient detail so that your background may be evaluated against the duties of the position. In your summary of training, include all college course work, formal in-service training, and seminars you have attended. You must specify either the number of credits received or the number of contact hours and dates of attendance. Include a copy of your professional license or documentation indicating eligibility for licensure. Specify the date that your license was first issued. Also, include a copy of your college transcripts, if applicable or required. In your summary of experience, you must specify the dates of your employment, the number of hours worked per week, your title, and the main duties for each. Be specific; vagueness and ambiguity will not be resolved in your favor. Candidates who submit incomplete applications or documentation may be disqualified. CANDIDATES W HO RECEIVE A GRADE OF 70 OR HIGHER WILL APPEAR ON THE APPROPRIATE ELIGIBLE LIST. THEIR NAME WILL BE INTERFILED ACCORDING TO GRADE AND WILL REMAIN ON THE ELIGIBLE
