Addictions Counselor Trainee (Spanish Speaking)

An employee in this class learns to provide screening and counseling services to individuals seeking admission to, or currently enrolled in, substance use disorder treatment programs. This class is distinguished by the fact that the incumbent can communicate with patients in either Spanish or English. The employee works closely with professional superiors in learning all aspects of work but may function with limited technical independence on more routine duties as the employee becomes familiar with them. Work involves interviewing patients and prospective patients, as well as planning, implementing, and monitoring individualized treatment plans for each patient. Work is reviewed frequently by a clinical and/or administrative supervisor through conferences and written reports in accordance with the New York State-mandated scope of practice. The minimum probation for this traineeship is twenty-six (26) weeks and the maximum term of this traineeship is three (3) years. Appointees who successfully complete their Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) exam and who are eligible for advancement during employment of this title may be appointed to Addictions Counselor (Spanish Speaking) without further examination. Current certification* from NYS Office of Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS) as a Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor – Trainee (CASAC-T). *Please attach to the application a copy of your CASAC-T credential from NYS OASAS. Necessary Special Requirements At time of appointment and during employment in this title, candidates are required to maintain status as a CASAC-T. Depending on the nature of the assignment, at the time of appointment and throughout employment in this title, employees may be required to possess a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State. Candidates may be subject to a background investigation.

This examination will consist of two
parts:
I. There will be no written or oral test for this examination. Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will receive a rating based on an evaluation of their training and experience against the background of the duties of the position. Please prepare a complete summary of your relevant education and experience for this position. In your summary of training include a copy of your college transcript(s) showing all college degrees. In your summary of experience describe fully each relevant position you have held during the past ten (10) years. State the type of organization and your place within it. Give a clear and precise description of your principal duties and responsibilities. Include the percent of work time you normally devote to each. If you have held more than one title with the same employer, describe each title separately.
