Assistant Insurance Manager

An employee in this class assists in the review and analysis of all insurance coverages including self-funded workers' compensation, disability income, property, casualty and liability and other specialty lines. Responsibility is also included for benefits administration. The incumbent assists in the formulation of the operating budget, advises departments about the types of insurance coverage necessary from contractors, consultants and concessionaires, and assists in the development and maintenance of chargeback systems for departments with federal funding. The incumbent helps determine adequate insurance coverage, assists in reviewing self-funded levels, and aids in the administration of all self-funded claims. Work is reviewed by an administrator through conferences and written reports. Supervision is exercised over insurance personnel. Does related work as required.

To be eligible, a candidate must now be serving and have served on a continuous basis with permanent or contingent permanent competitive status as a Liability Claims Supervisor for at least two (2) years or as a Senior Insurance Contract Analyst for at least three (3) years immediately preceding the written examination. Provisional time immediately preceding a permanent appointment to the same title(s) will be credited.
