Chief Legislative Analyst

An employee in this class is involved in conducting comprehensive reviews of the overall impact of legislative fiscal policy and coordinating special projects and complex programmatic and fiscal analyses performed by lower-level personnel. Responsibility is included for analyses that require complex methodology. The incumbent works under the general direction of the Assistant Director of Budget Review and is expected to exercise considerable independent judgment and initiative in the performance of duties. Does related work as required.

To be eligible, a candidate must now be serving and have served on a continuous basis with permanent or contingent permanent competitive status as a Principal Legislative Analyst for at least one (1) year or as a Senior Legislative Analyst for at least three (3) years in the jurisdiction in which the candidate seeks promotion immediately preceding the written examination date. Provisional time immediately preceding a permanent appointment to the same title(s) will be credited.

The written test will cover
knowledge, skills and/or abilities in such areas as:
1. Preparing written material; 2. Budgeting; 3. Understanding and interpreting tabular material; 4. Evaluating conclusions in light of known facts; 5. Supervision.
