Principal Legislative Analyst

An employee in this class is involved in coordinating and performing for the Suffolk County Legislature complex analyses of the fiscal and programmatic effects of the Suffolk County Executive’s proposed operating and capital budgets. Analyses at this level involve not only specific departments, but the study of the overall impact of legislative fiscal policy. Supervision is exercised over supervisory personnel. Does related work as required.

To be eligible, a candidate must now be serving and have served on a continuous basis with permanent or contingent permanent competitive status as a Senior Legislative Analyst for at least one (1) year in the jurisdiction in which the candidate seeks promotion immediately preceding the written examination date. Provisional time immediately preceding a permanent appointment to the same title(s) will be credited.

The written test will cover knowledge,
skills, and/or abilities in such areas as:
1. Preparing written material; 2. Budgeting; 3. Understanding and interpreting tabular material; 4. Evaluating conclusions in light of known facts; 5. Supervision.
