What the job involves

This is technical work involving responsibility for the oversight of computer systems and technology development. The incumbent meets with users, vendors, and technical staff to develop enhancement requests, determine needs, and resolve system problems. Direct supervision is provided by a higher-level administrator. Supervision is not a responsibility of this position. Does related work as required. Controlled Substance Screening: When you are offered a full-time or part-time, permanent or contingent permanent appointment at Ontario County, you will be required to complete a controlled substances screening prior to employment. Background Investigation: Candidates may be subject to a thorough background investigation and psychological evaluation to determine suitability for appointment. Applicants may be required to authorize access to educational, employment, criminal history and other records check as part of such investigation. Criminal convictions or other offenses are subject to evaluation and may result in disqualification. Applicants will be required to submit the necessary fees for the fingerprint processing, where required. Special Requirement for Appointment in School Districts or BOCES: Per Chapter 180 of the Laws of 2000, and by Regulations of the Commissioner of Education, to be employed in a position designated by a School District or BOCES as involving direct contact with students, a clearance for employment from the State Education Department is required.

Minimum qualifications

Either:
1. Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree, or higher, in Computer Science, Computer Technology, Data Processing, Management Information Systems, or a closely related field AND two (2) years full-time, paid experience, or its part-time equivalent, in computer operations, technical support, system development or analysis; OR
2. Possession of an Associate’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Technology, Data Processing, Management Information Systems, or a closely related field, AND four (4) years full-time, paid experience, or its part-time equivalent, as described in (1) above; OR
3. Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma AND six (6) years full-time, paid experience, or its part-time equivalent, as described in (1) above; OR
4. An equivalent combination of experience and training as defined by the limits of (1), (2) and (3) above. Special Note: Education: Your degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education. If your degree was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. A list of acceptable companies who provide this service can be found on the Internet at http://www.cs.ny.gov/jobseeker/degrees.cfm. You must pay the required evaluation fee. Anticipated Eligibility - Experience: Applicants who lack thirty days, or less, of meeting the minimum qualifications by the date of the examination will be admitted conditionally to the examination. However, proof of the additional days’ qualifications must be submitted prior to the establishment of the eligible list.

Subject of examination

You will complete a questionnaire that asks for specific information on your information technology education (formal degrees, IT-related training courses, certifications) and experience. You will also be asked to briefly describe a significant achievement in each of the job's areas and to provide the name and contact information for someone who can verify your information. The information you provide about
your experience will be rated against the following areas:

Residency

Candidates must have their domicile as New York State for at least one month immediately preceding the examination date.

This examination is being held to establish an Eligible List to fill future vacancies in this title, which may occur during the life of the Eligible List.
