What the job involves

This is a para-professional position involving responsibility for providing occupational therapy treatment to clients and planning treatment in accordance with medical orders from a physician and under the direction of a registered Occupational Therapist. Supervision of others is not a responsibility of this class. The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant receives supervision and consultation from an Occupational Therapist. A Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant does related work as assigned. Typical Qualifications RESIDENCY: Candidates must have been legal residents of the following jurisdiction(s) for at least four months immediately preceding the date of the written test: Livingston County, or One of the following Counties: Allegany, Genesee, Monroe, Ontario, Steuben or Wyoming Applicants must meet all requirements for one of the following qualification options in order to be approved for examination and/or appointment: Qualification Option # 1 2 Training/Education Completion of an Associate's degree program for occupational therapy assistants; OR Completion of a program acceptable to the New York State Education Department (NYSED). A New York State Education Department permit to practice as an Occupational Therapy Assistant. General experience None required. Supervisory experience None required. License/ Certification Certified and currently registered by the New York State Education Department as an Occupational Therapy Assistant.
(1) If the appointing authority is a: public, voluntary, or proprietary hospital, health care agency or in a preschool or an elementary or secondary school for the purpose of providing occupational therapy as a related service for a handicapped child; AND
(2) The appointing authority has a licensed occupational therapist or a licensed physician who is available and willing to provide direct supervision as described in NYS Education Law Article 156 § 7905. Other requirements See Special Qualifications below.
SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS :
Appropriate licensure must be maintained throughout employment. Applicants appointed under Option 2 will be required to obtain their license in accordance with NYS Education Law Article 156 §7905.
