What the job involves
This is a supervisory position involving responsibility for overseeing, supervising, and training the emergency medical services program and staff as well as providing emergency medical services to residents of a fire district. The incumbent oversees and operates specially equipped medical vehicles in the transport of victims to area hospitals. The incumbent, possessing the appropriate certification level from the New York State Department of Health required for the position, oversees and renders initial medical services to persons requiring medical assistance. The work is performed under general supervision with considerable leeway in the exercise of independent judgment in carrying out the details of the work. Supervision is exercised over Advanced Emergency Medical Technician/Drivers and Emergency Medical Technician/Drivers. Employees are required to recertify on a periodic basis for the Advanced Emergency Medical Technician certification or higher-level required for the position. The incumbent does related work as required.
Minimum qualifications
Candidates must meet the minimum qualifications at time of examination. All experience must be paid experience unless otherwise indicated. Possession of a current certification from the New York State Department of Health as an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician or higher and must keep current throughout employment and one (1) year of supervisory experience.
Subject of examination
The only subject of examination will be an evaluation of your training and experience. You must complete all sections of the exam application. Failure to complete all sections of the application or leaving blanks in certain areas of the application may result in insufficient information to give you credit for education and experience. You are responsible for submitting all pertinent training and experience in sufficient detail so that your background may be evaluated against the duties of the position.
Residency
Residency has been waived for this examination. Appointing authorities may give preference for appointments to residents of Clinton County who have been so for at least thirty (30) days immediately preceding the date of appointment. Location
The eligible list established as a result of this examination will be used to fill present and future vacancies that may occur in Clinton County departments, towns, villages, school districts and the City of Plattsburgh.
