Police Lieutenant (City Police)

This is an important law enforcement position involving supervision of police activities according to established procedures and policies outlined by a superior officer. Responsibility involves assigning duties to Police Officers, evaluating their work performance, and instructing them in new and approved police methods. Work is performed under direct supervision of the Police Chief or a higher ranking officer. The incumbent does related work as required. For Police Lieutenant (City Police) (Promotional)

Candidates must meet the minimum qualifications at time of examination. All experience must be paid experience unless otherwise noted. Candidates must be currently employed in the competitive class or a 55-a designated position in the Plattsburgh City Police Department and must have ten
(10) years of experience as a Police Officer or higher level-not exclusive to the City Police Department and must be currently holding a permanent, competitive class position for one (1) year as a Police Sergeant, Police Corporal, or Police Detective within the City Police Department.

Points will be added to an eligible score as follows:
Less than 1 year 0 Points 1 year up to 6 years 1 Point 6 years up to 11 years 2 Points 11 years up to 16 years 3 Points 16 years up to 21 years 4 Points 21 years and up 5 Points Rating of seniority is based on the length of continuous permanent classified service.
